Dr. Salinas: As I got up to the sink and was washing my face and splashing cold water on my face, and Ii was looking in the mirror, I had to keep reminding myself that this is me, I didn’t die.

Dr. Schmidt: The internet went out, the cell phones were no longer working, so we were literally relying on texting each other in the aftermath, hoping that, you know, some form of communication would start to trickle through.

Dr. Chachoua: My personal life is very open with my patients. I think of my patients as really just an extension of my family. I complain about my wife, my in-laws et cetera, as you know, um, yes, you can edit that part (laughter)

Narrator: SiriusXM And NYU Langone Health present Season 2 of Vital Signs, where medicine is made personal. Featuring NYU’s world class doctors, nurses and researchers, sharing their own extraordinary stories.

Dr. Chavez: The first time we did a fetal surgery or fetoscopy, the fetus reached out and grabbed the scope. It absolutely amazed me and the entire team.

Dr. Axelrad: I'm happy to say that now she's doing a lot better, but you know, she lost a good year and a half of her life

Dr. Chachoua:  The worst part for me was the pain. And I’ll be honest, I mean, there were days where I just wanted to die.

Narrator: Hear one doctor’s story of seeing and sensing the world… in a way that few of us can imagine.

Dr. Salinas: In my brain looking at you, I'm essentially looking at myself. I might as well be looking at my reflection of myself. And so it becomes harder to tell the difference between where I end and you begin, or where you end and I begin.

Narrator: Learn how hospitals rose to meet overwhelming challenges during the first weeks of the COVID19 pandemic.

Dr. Hochman: The dermatologists came, the urologists came, the orthopedic surgeons came, the pathologists came. We had about 150 attending physicians from all different specialties come and want to help.

Narrator: And follow the journey of how a nurse turned the devastating loss of her husband into a career bringing hope to others through clinical trials.

Nurse Gordon: If Henry could see me now, he would tell me that he knew I would do it, and that I’m not done doing what I need to do.
